I can't see the alleged "slop."
But on that subject, I'm reminded of a Readers' Digest article I read long ago. The thrust of the article was this; sometimes, it's worth doing something badly.
I didn't understand what the author could have meant at the time, but I think I understand it now. He didn't mean that it's not worth striving to do the best you can. He meant that sometimes it's worth doing an activity because you love it. Even if you're not good at it. Even if you could be really good at it if you took the time, but you can't take the time because you're fitting it in around too many other things.
